SHAKESPEARE

I recently was surprised to learn that Shakespeare was Christian. Hamlet and 2 characters that were named "friar" were Catholic characters in his plays. Scholars agree that Shakespeare was Anglican (Church of England) and there is some dispute that he was secretly also a practicing Catholic. Also Newton was Christian in his time. Einstein was Jewish and later was a theist with no particular religious affiliation. With all these personal facts don't you think that there might be something to theism.........that humankind might be spiritual on an individual, person-by-person basis. That God is near in every human...though I do not understand why there is so much evil in the World.......and so much inequity.........There was a national story yesterday about a family of 4, this family was homeless living in an old van in Orange County very near here........a 41 year old man (of Southeast Asian descent) his 20 year old wife and their 2 year old daughter and infant daughter........all killed as they slept in a parking lot by carbon monoxide poisoning coming from the exhaust from their van.........It is insane that this happened.......Whatever did the likes of Shakespeare and Einstein and Newton have to say about the problem of evil?

PERFECTION

Academic papers (or research papers) are not supposed to be perfection. They represent in some cases the birth of new ideas in the various disciplines, they are by their nature tentative and approximate.......After enough approximate research papers (or academic papers) are published on a given subject, someone, usually the lead scientist in the field, gathers together the approximate papers in the field and writes a monograph. For example, A.F. Wells wrote and published about a dozen approximate papers on "three dimensional nets" in the 50's and 60's and then he wrote his masterpiece monograph entitled "Three Dimensional Nets and Polyhedra" which was then published in 1977. You are well aware of what I am talking about here because you went through my sometimes sloppy and sometimes approximate work and you cited it prominently in "Homo Citans" with Proserpio and the Russian scientists. And it came out in the way you took my sloppy preprints seriously as well before they were ever published as imperfect research papers.....You are able to see the value in things before the general public can appreciate it.

MODULAR CARBON

There are other "modular" carbon allotropes that we could do a short paper on each one. "modular" meaning a 3D pattern constructed from a repeating molecular model molecule extended in 1- and 2- and 3-dimensions. The 2 most obvious ones are "iso-exocyclobutadieneite" and "squaro-exocyclobutadieneite". Each one is constructed from a 1,3-dimethylene-cyclobutane building block.........or exocyclobutadiene building block. And there may be a pattern relevant to carbon by using a generating fragment I call 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15-octamethylene-cyclotetradecane..........this would form the next member of the series (A) 1,3-dimethylene-cyclobutane (exocyclobutadieneite) (B) 1,3,5-trimethylene-cyclohexane (trigohexagonite) (C) 1,3,5,7-tetramethylene-cyclooctane (glitter) (D) 1,3,5,7.9.11-hexamethylene-cyclododecane (hexagonite) and then on to (E)  1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15-octamethylene-cyclotetradecane (octagonite)............I can make some drawings by hand and scan them in and email them to you if you are interested in looking in to these ideas more. Also I could make framework models here and mail them out to you.........so as to get a feel for the models by handling them.

JOSEPH CAMPBELL

Joseph Campbell was a B.A. and M.A. both from Columbia University. He wanted to be a scholar but evidently with no PhD he had a difficult time getting a job. His family was evidently wealthy and they helped him early on with his odd quest. He applied to many schools for academic jobs and over 100 schools turned him down without even an interview. This because he did not have a PhD I presume. He landed a job at Sarah Lawrence College in the Hudson River area of NYS as a professor of mythology and stayed there for over 40 years. I deeply am moved by Joe's writings and at one point he advocates a formula for success.........summed up as "follow your bliss"...........in other words do what your heart tells you is right for you. The phrase "follow your bliss" comes from Act II Scene VII of Shakespeare's famous play "The Merchant of Venice".........."so follow your bliss and hold on to your fair lady and give her a loving kiss".............that is not a direct quote but it is essentially the message from Shakespeare. Follow your bliss means to embrace your destiny and do what comes naturally for you to do. But directly Shakespeare meant that you should embrace the love in your life as your primary destiny.........and marry and go on. Campbell's take on this is not about marriage so much as it is about pursuing your natural tendencies and expressing your creativity in the World to the greatest extent possible.........in particular Campbell says that you should abandon at all costs a mundane routine in life of working at a job you hate to carve out what will surely turn out to be an unhappy existence and an unfulfilled destiny. Campbell advocates basically to walk off the dead end job and strike out on your own pathway blazing your own unique trail of truth in this World thereby fulfilling your true destiny. This previous sentence is what people have called "Joe's formula". Campbell speaks about "magic hands" that will come out of nowhere to guide you and support you in your quest. Well my response to all of this advice is that I followed my bliss and (1) I did propose marriage to my fair lady and she has turned it around and rejected me in life and (2) I pursued my passions in life, walking off of several dead end jobs, and trying to express my innate creativity to its fullest extent..........I followed Joe's formula just about perfectly..............and by 46 I was living poorly and struggling seemingly with no end in sight........and it is 9 years later and my status has not changed much. My question to Joe is, "All right already I followed your formula perfectly and there is no apparent recognition for what I have done and no kind of security whatsoever..........your formula doesn't always work right Joe?
