ZIKA VIRUS

These days in Brazil there is an epidemic caused by the zika virus. It infects through misquito bites to humans and causes flu-like sickness. But worse still is that newborns birthed by a mother who is infected with the zika virus causes the newborns to have underdeveloped brains and unusually small heads. The World Health Organization has figured there will be at the present time 4 million zika infants. Everywhere you look there is some catastrophe happening in the World and the World has almost no memory. Only the famous are remembered for their accomplishments and the 99% of the rest of the World is completely forgotten at death. But there are people who do genealogies who remember some of those forgotten. The question of where is God through all this may be answered in one way as God is benevolent but definitely not omnipotent. Evil is in conflict with good since creation began.

OLD GERMAN WOMAN

There is enough going on here in this little village that I could write a story. And I am hoping to write a story eventually. 1 block West and for several block corners South there is the name Lipscomb in the pavement and it is strange. But stranger still is the story of this old German woman who lived 3 blocks West. I met her in 2005 when I looked at a duplex to rent next to her house. We talked for about 10 minutes and then she abruptly accused me of looking at her breasts. I saw her later after I separated in 2009 several times on the corner near her house..........then she would come to Sunday mass at Star of the Sea and was seen walking up on the altar during mass.......this happened several times but she was never taken away. Then I saw her at the Oceanside Public Library in 2011 a few times and I tried to say "hi" once or twice and I think she called me shithead. Then I was at a public computer terminal and she suddenly appeared and came up to me and asked me in a broken German accent if I had read Hitler's "Mein Kampf"...........she was old enough to have lived through WWII in Germany. Then a while later I saw a copy of "Mein Kampf" sitting on a chair in the library. It was a thin volume in English and I was surprised it was a library holding, but it was. I did not try to read it. Then a couple years later, in 2012 about, I learned that her husband had killed her (she was near 80) in that house 3 blocks West of here. He apparently cut her head off and kept it for a while in the freezer for reasons unknown and parts of her body were buried in the yard. You might ask me after this glimpse of Oceanside whether I believe in God.......My answer is I am puzzled Roald by God.......the God question.

LIPPINCOTT

Lippincott was perhaps a great scientist except for one great mistake. He has 151 publications in Scopus and 112 co-authors. He was probably Professor of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Maryland for many years and probably taught many many people difficult subjects......wrote many exams and prepared and delivered many lectures at the University of Maryland which is a great school. I am willing to bet based upon his ratio of papers to co-authors that he was a very honest man and was not a problematic person in any way. He was probably of a strict Christian moral code and never engaged in sinister activities in his work or life. It is sad that Hazen in his book "The New Alchemists" dispenses of Ellis Lippincott casually. Today is a day to remember Lippincott as a very good scientist, I will remember him that way. Charles Weir and Alvin Van Valkenburg and Lippincott created the diamond anvil cell and developed it profoundly.......they should have been given great recognition for this invention, but polywater made it impossible...........It is just not fair what happened to Lippincott in life.......... But my theories are very speculative as well and I may possibly be dispensed of by history casually and anonymously even though my work is imaginative and some of it might be right.
