ATOMIC CANDLES

You have heard of Roman candles..........How about this idea. You make a concentrated solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal chloride salt and you "soak" an absorbent cotton string in the solution until the string achieves a saturation of the salt from the solution. Then you make a wax candle with the string, dipping it in liquid wax, until it is a candle size. Then you let it cool off and later you light the "atomic candle" and it has a flame of the characteristic color of the salt. And it burns for hours perhaps with the characteristic flame color and sparkles perhaps. Would this idea work? I have thought about patenting the idea but I don't have the drive and money to file the patent..........though I could write up the application myself.
